Sports Injuries of the Feet and Ankles Deserve Expert Care
/“We’re disorganized. We’re somewhat disheveled,” said Coach Geno Auriemma after the UConn Huskies lost a game with Georgia Tech on December 9, breaking their impressive 240-game winning streak. Foot injuries, knee issues, and back pain had decimated the Husky team, whittling them down to just eight players.
There’s a lesson our patients can learn from the Huskies’ lack of team depth. Injuries pull you away from your physical best, causing disorganization, dishevelment, and other life challenges. When you sustain a foot or ankle injury, your work and family life can suffer. Activities of daily living become harder. You may feel like you’re letting your team down.
That’s where our team comes in. Our board-certified podiatrists’ goal is to get you back in the game as quickly and safely as possible. Many kinds of foot and ankle injuries can relegate you to the sidelines:
sprained ankles
broken or dislocated bones
stress fractures
pulled or ruptured muscles
Achilles tendonitis
posterior tibial tendonitis
And the list goes on.
When you’re dealing with a sports injury, keep these three important things in mind:
Treating foot or ankle injuries right away will pull you off the injured reserve list sooner than later. Without medical intervention, your foot or ankle injury can take much longer to heal.
If you forego proper treatment, an injury not only can take longer to heal, but it may not heal well at all. Acute (sudden) injuries can become chronic, lifelong issues.
Taking time for rest and recovery can be crucial. Look at Nika Muhl, for example - the Huskies guard who injured her foot in this month’s Georgia Tech game. She sprained her foot back in the NCAA playoffs last March - and still has residual issues from that initial injury.
