6 Tips to Keep Exercising during Social Distancing
/A few short weeks ago, who had even heard of “social distancing”? As we all adjust, for the time being, to isolating ourselves and to offices, restaurants, and gyms being closed, the board-certified podiatrists at Affiliated Foot & Ankle Center want to offer our patients some encouragement. Specifically, it’s important to stick with some kind of exercise routine even if most of your other routines have been totally interrupted.
Making exercise a priority is good for your physical and mental health. Here are 6 suggestions for staying active during the coronavirus threat:
If you’re working from home or sitting in front of the TV, take frequent breaks. Getting up and moving around can help you solve problems easier; studies show that it helps to take a break, distract the mind, and return to the problem at hand, reaching a solution faster than if you simply worked at it non-stop. Stop to put away dishes, check on a friend, or do a few pushups.
Take a walk or run around the neighborhood; remember to protect your feet with good, supportive shoes.
Take advantage of exercise programs offered online - check with your gym to see if they’re posting routines you can follow at home.
Get your kids involved. Make exercise a family affair any way that you can, such as tossing a football around the backyard.
Find a personal trainer online - set up video chats while you’re working out to make sure your form is correct and you don’t get hurt.
Clean! Clear out your closets, get outside and rake out the garden beds. Now’s a great time to set aside items to donate or get ready for a summer tag sale.
